The Complete Yard Sign Guide: Sizes, Materials & How to Get Noticed
Everything an Ohio business needs to know about yard signs — the right size, single vs. double-sided, stakes, and design that gets read at 40 mph.

Yard signs are the hardest-working, lowest-cost sign most businesses will ever buy. A single well-designed sign on a busy Poland or Boardman road can be seen by thousands of drivers a week — for the price of a few cups of coffee. Here’s how to get them right.
Start with the standard size
The most popular yard sign is 24″ wide by 18″ tall. It’s big enough to read from a moving car, small enough to be affordable in bulk, and it fits a standard wire H-stake. Real estate, political, event, contractor and “coming soon” signs almost all use this size.
Single- vs. double-sided
If traffic only passes one direction (a storefront window, a fence line), single-sided is fine and cheaper. If the sign sits at a corner or in a median where people approach from both ways, double-sided doubles your impressions for a small upcharge.
Material & stakes
- 4mm corrugated plastic (coroplast) is the standard — weatherproof, rigid, and light.
- Wire H-stakes push into any lawn in seconds and hold up in wind.
- For long-term outdoor use, ask about heavier substrates or aluminum.
Design tips that actually get read
- Few words. A driver has about 3 seconds. Lead with one bold message.
- High contrast. Dark text on a light background (or vice-versa) reads from farthest away.
- Big phone number. Make it the second-largest thing on the sign.
- Leave breathing room. Crowded signs look cheap and read slow.
How many should you order?
Yard signs get cheaper per unit the more you print. Ordering 10–90 at a time is common for campaigns, open houses, and events. We include the H-stake and free shipping on yard signs.
